Is your golf equipment in need of an MOT?
With the golf season now over, it's a great time to have a look at your equipment and see if there's anything that needs done to bring them up to scratch. Our team are on hand to assess your equipment 7 days a week, so please feel free to pop in any time. Our workshop can offer the following service:
Re-Gripping from £4 per club Loft/Lie alterations £3 per club Re-groove/Sandblast £5 per club Iron head Refurbishment £10 per club Club lengthening £7 per club Shoe Spiking from £9.99
Maintenance Time
We've been out giving the driving bays a good pressure wash in preparation for a fresh lick of paint. The painting works will be starting next week and will be done in stages, with completion expected in about 4-6 weeks.
My first week's practice
With 500 range balls hit in the past week, it was time to get back on FlightScope and see how my numbers were improving.
Although it's only a slight improvement, I'm happy to say that I'm moving in the right direction and along with the confirmation that the FlightScope numbers give me. I can feel that my swing is feeling more solid through the repetitive practice.
If you look at the pictures above, you will see that my club head speed has increased by almost 2mph, but that my distance has increased by only 0.4 yard. The reason that my 2mph speed gain has not resulted in more distance is that my timing is not yet there and as a result, my ball striking (smash factor) is not quite as efficient as it was previously. As I continue to practice, the quality of ball contact will improve and this will give me the correct distance.
I am going to continue to hit a basket of balls each day I'm at the 'Ark' over the winter and let's see how much I can increase my speed and distance by.
Long Drive Competition
Thanks to everyone that entered last week's competition to try and correctly identify who was who in the long drive competition. The correct answer was as follows,
Mickey Mouse - Danny Young Goofy - Jonny Belford Donald Duck - Andrew McHardy Minnie Mouse - Ross McDonald
Well done to David Smith, Brian Martin and Crawford Buchan who all guessed correctly. You each win a sleeve of Srixon AD333 golf balls, which are ready for you to collect at the golf centre.
Three steps to a better impact
Impact position is the most important position in the golf swing, but is very difficult to work on due to the momentum of the swing at this point. To work on improving your impact position requires you feeling how the correct impact position should be. Today I'll show you a great exercise to help you feel the correct impact position.
Step 1
From address position, I want you to swing to the top of your backswing, making sure that you pivot centrally without swaying to the right.
Step 2
Now make a slow motion practice swing down to impact without contacting the ball. This will help give you the feeling of how impact should be. This movement is best made very slowly, so that you can really feel how the body moves and the weight transfers to your front foot. Repeat this slow motion movement three times.
Step 3
Following your third practice move, you should make a complete swing, keeping in mind the feeling of impact. Strike the ball on the way through and continue to a full and compete finish. This is a great drill to help improve your impact position and as a result to help you hit more consistently straight shots.

9 Holes open
Due to the heavy rain and very high tides, we are currently down to 9 holes. As soon as the river levels drop, we will work to get the full 18 open as soon as possible. With the drainage works that were completed early September and our new water pump, we should have the full course back up and running much quicker than normal.
Winter Learning and fun at North Inch Golf
As the weather has taken a turn for the worse, we're keen to keep you all thinking about golf over the winter, so have decided to organise some indoor evening sessions. These sessions will take the form of golf instruction talks, golf quiz nights, rules evenings and any other ideas you may have! I plan to publish dates of the first evening session next week and will include it in the newsletter and on social media.
North Inch Golf Course - working to create the friendliest, most accessible and affordable golf course in Perth & Kinross.
