Repairs

Are your grips in need of replacing? It's amazing how many golfers are playing with grips that are in need of changing and as a result are costing themselves shots on the course.

When a grip begins to wear out, it will generally start to harden and become slippery.

As this is a gradual decline in grip, players very often don't notice the deterioration until the grip is well beyond its effective life. The result of this reduction in grip, is that a player will have to increase the tension with which they hold the club. This added tension will spread from the hands through the arms and shoulders causing the player to lose some fluidity to their swing and can lead to both ball striking and directional issues.

If you would like your grips checked out, then please just pop into the golf centre and speak with one of our team. They will happily have a look at your grips and asses their level of wear.

Play Better Golf - Take Control of your Pitching

To control the distance of your pitch shots, you should keep your backswing and through swing equidistant, and simply lengthen or shorten the swing length to vary how far the ball flies. But even if you do this and do not keep a consistent loft on your clubface at point of impact, then your ball will fly varying distances due to the increased or decreased amount of dynamic loft. I see many players who really struggle with this, so today I'll explain how to maintain a consistent dynamic loft and master your pitching.

From your address position, you must pivot your shoulders back, keeping your arms moving in time with your body. From your back swing position, focus on moving your chest through impact, allowing it to "carry" the loft on the club face. What I mean by this, is that if your chest leads your movement through to finish position, then this will make it very difficult for your hands and wrists to take over, and alter the clubs loft at impact.

You need to feel that your chest brings your arms and club through to finish rather than your hands pushing or scooping to get at the ball. It will feel as though your hands are very passive and that there is no jerkiness to your swing. This requires some practice, but will make a huge difference to your pitching.
