Greetings from Niall McGill

Johnson wins the Open... It just wasn't the Johnson we all thought it would be!

Zach Johnson is the Champion golfer of 2015 and is back off to the US with the famous old Claret Jug. Now, let me first say that Zach Johnson is a very worthy winner and thoroughly deserves the win. But, what on earth is the problem with Dustin Johnson? For a player in the world's top 5 it's amazing how many major tournaments he has now blown.

Dustin is such a talented player and I'm sure he has a major in him, so it's just going to be a game of patience. I would personally love to see Jason Day win a major soon. Jason has been there or there about in so many majors over the last few years and has done very little wrong, it's just that someone else has just pipped him to it. Jason's Day will come very soon!

Back to Zach, and he just goes to show that you don't have to be the longest hitter to be a major champion.

Play Better Golf - Hybrid bump & run

Congratulation Zach Johnson on a fantastic win at the Open Championship. This was one of the closest fought Open's I can ever remember, with so many players having been in a position to lift the coveted claret jug. Whilst we are currently experiencing a fairly wet summer golf season, you may be finding it quite tricky to hit well struck chip shots from around the green and may find yourself hitting some fats and thins.

The design of an iron sole is reasonably narrow which makes the leading edge quite sharp especially when the ball is placed further back in the stance. Hybrid clubs have a wider sole design and are not limited to hitting full shots, they can also be very effective chipping clubs, meaning that they brush through the grass with much less chance of digging in.

To play the hybrid bump & run, firstly set up with a reasonably narrow stance, grip down the club and place the ball just forward of centre in your stance. You should now rock your shoulders back and through as if you were playing a long putt. I would suggest using a hybrid with around 19 - 22 degrees loft as that will give just enough lift get the ball travelling.

With a bit of practice, this could be your new secret weapon!

There's no doubt that modern irons travel further and whilst we'd certainly put the AeroBurner irons up there, what we'd like to do is see you hit some shots and go from there. Perhaps TaylorMade's RSi irons would suit you better...
