Greetings from Niall McGill
Noah's Ark Golf Centre - PGA Golf Professional

It's Masters Time!

So, who is your money on? Rather than going for one of the most obvious choices, I'm going for 22/1 shot Jimmy Walker. Walker has been playing some great golf and is coming into the Masters under the radar, which is never a bad thing.

It has to be all about Rory this year, as he works towards his career Grand Slam. If all the videos on social media are to go by, the Rory is certainly the man to beat. He has been working so hard on both his golf game and his strength and conditioning, that he's going to be a hard man to beat. Rory however, is still a very down to earth lad and has approached Bradley and offered to play 9 holes practice with him on Monday or Tuesday. Not bad for a lad from Blair!

As I write this email, Jordan Spieth seems to be the man on fire and is producing some amazing golf. Tiger also seems to have put his 'chipping yips' critics to rest by playing 3 or 4 of the most amazing pitches I've seen and certainly not shots that someone struggling with their short game could play. The rest of his game is not there, but I don't think he is finished!

Rory has a had a steady start and one of the most impressive rounds of golf has come from Tom Watson, who's 1 under 71 at age 65 is another extremely impressive performance.

Titleist Trial Day

We've got a Trial day organised with Titleist on Tuesday, 14 April. There is no need to book for this event, you can simply come along and try all the latest 915 woods and 714 iron ranges. Titleist clubs have always been perceived as being for low handicap players only, but their latest range really does work for every level of player.

The day will run from 2-7pm and everyone is welcome to come along.

Custom Fitting at Noah's Ark

Andrew and Jonny have been busy boys again this week, custom fitting our clients for their new clubs. We offer a complete custom fitting service for both irons and woods and use the very latest FlightScope Radar technology, which measures everything about your ball fight and club delivery.

When you decide to invest in new golf clubs, you should not just go and buy them off the shelf and instead should make sure that you try several different models and that you get them professionally fitted to your game and swing style.

A 1 hour custom fitting session at Noah's Ark costs £40 and if following the fitting you buy clubs worth over £200 , then you will get a 50% rebate on your fitting fee. If you spend over £300 , then you will get your full fitting fee returned.
Want to improve your golf
If you'd like more information on our range membership, then check out our website, give us a call on 01738 440678 or email info@noahsarkgolf.com.

This week's deliveries include:

Stromberg Trousers, from £42 (plain and funky styles)
Stuburt golf shoes from £39.99
Callaway XR 3Deep fairway woods £179
Wilson DX2 Soft golf balls £16.95 per dozen (2 doz for £28)

Play Better Golf - Master your chips

Over the next few days, you are going to watch some of the most amazing short game shots played on what are arguably the world's most difficult greens at Augusta National.

The grass around the greens at Augusta is as tight as you can get, which means there's no margin for error. One thing I want you to watch is how the players simply bruise the grass when chipping around the greens and that they don't take any divot when close in.

This is because they use the 'bounce', which is designed into the sole of every wedge. Bounce is measured in degrees and is the difference in angle between the leading and back edge of the clubs sole, with the back edge sitting lower to the ground.

The purpose of bounce is to prevent the leading edge of the club digging into the ground, and it is vital to use this bounce whilst playing chips from tight lies. Play the ball from just forward of centre, and whilst you swing, you must practice trying to get your club shaft into a vertical position at impact, feeling that the bounce strikes the ground before the leading edge.

You do not want forward shaft lean when playing from bare lies, as this will make your club cut through the turf like a knife through butter.

Using bounce will allow you to strike into the turf without the risk of your club head digging in. Make sure you keep your body moving through impact also, and with a bit of practice, you will be striking the ball great, regardless of the lie.

Click here if you need help with your swing and would like to book a lesson.

Golf Course is starting to take shape

ISS FAcility Services
One week into our new maintenance contract and with our new contractor ISS and the golf course is really starting to take shape.

With an increased cutting regime and some new cutting machinery, the course improvement is really starting to show.

We've been getting some great feedback from our golfers and this has translated into 29 new members for this year so far. We're in the process of cutting down all the thick rough between the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 18th holes, which caused such a problem for our golfers last year.

This year, the rough will be cut down to 25mm and will be cut once per week, so that it doesn't get out of hand.

We have also introduced bunker rakes to the course this week and this is already starting to show a real difference. We'd ask that all golfers please rake up the bunkers after they have played their shot and this will also help clear up some of the dog skrapes.

Volunteer Group

As with many other golf clubs, we need to turn to a volunteer group to help us with some of the maintenance tasks that don't require a green keeper to perform. By doing this, it will allow our green keepers to spend their time on the most important and more technical tasks.

Over the next couple of months, we are going to have a big push on growing the numbers of our Volunteer Group. Upcoming tasks will include:

- Raking up smothered grass at 12th & 13th holes, to allow for over seeding.
- Sanding and Staining fence around putting green
- Painting water hazard stakes
- Edging sheers round bunkers.
- Divoting fairways and tees
- Scrubbing and cleaning up tee signs

We really want you to come and help us and for all your hard work, we are going to give you the gift of golf! For every 3 hrs of volunteer hours that you work, we'll give you a voucher for a FREE round of golf.

This voucher can be used by yourself (if you're not a season ticket holder), or you can gift it to a family member or friend.
