Before

This job has been on my 'To Do'List for almost 10 years! There is a section at the bottom of the ramp up to the shop that we have to dig out in 2005, to install a drainage pipe for the shed that covers the mini golf course. Once installed, the section was re-concreted, but after 5 or 6 years, the concrete started breaking away. As a temporary fix, I covered what was left with some stone chips, with the intention of digging out properly and re-concreting. One thing about this lock down, is that we are managing to catch up with these jobs!

After

As you can see above, the job is now finished and looking great. One of my issues with doing this job is that everyone who enters the building has to walk over the area and wet concrete is not the best surface to walk on! I also have the walls and cope stones a pressure wash and it's all looking great for welcoming you back. Before you mention it, I know the door need painting too! That is also on my list!

In this episode of Garden Golf, I will show you how to practice at home for when the ball is below your feet. This can be a really tricky shot to play and is weel worth spending some time just now to hone your skills!

Whe th ball is above you rgeet, there are a few adjustements that ned to be made to your set up and swing to compensate for the difference to your stance. In this episode of Graden Golf, I will explain teh cahnges and show you how you can practice this at home.

Range update

I have been giving the driving range a regular cut during lock down, so that it is in tip-top condition for when we are able to reopen. I have to say that it is looking absolutely fantastic and probably as good as it has every looked in its 23 year history. With there being no requirement to drive round picking up golf balls, the grass has had a chance to recover a bit and this has allowed me to get our more fine cut mower to trim maintain the range and the difference is very noticeable. I have been able to stripe up the range and am planning to get the drone out tomorrow and get some arial shots done.

Golf's rivalries pt2

Golf's greatest rivalries - Woods vs Mickelson

For those that go on stats, this barely constitutes a rivalry. However, when you consider they achieved their feats over the same period, then what both men have managed is mightily impressive.

Tiger was the face of the game for almost two decades. He’s won 15 majors, racked up 109 worldwide professional victories, and even had the main golf video game named after him for several years. In that same time, Phil played second fiddle. A role that saw ‘lefty’ accumulate five major titles, 51 worldwide professional wins and represent the USA in 12 consecutive Ryder Cups. Sadly for Mickelson, he never reached the summit of the World Golf Rankings, albeit spending 26 consecutive years inside the Top 50.

It’s scary to think what more either man could have achieved without the other standing in their way. Let us know which rivalry stands out for you the most and why by getting in touch here.

Weekly challenge

What to do

Grab your wedge and a golf ball. Head to the garden or give yourself some space inside the house. Now, try to do as many keepy-ups as possible without the ball touching the ground.

Sounds easy, right?

Get adventurous

If you’re a bit of a show-off, try hitting the ball off your thigh or stopping the ball on your clubface before starting again. You can do this with tennis balls too, or even toilet rolls (apparently).

Golf at home

If any of you are missing golf as much as we are, you’ll be straight onto the course as soon as it’s safe to do so. Well, until that time comes, here’s a little drill for you to try that’ll keep those competitive juices flowing.

The set-up

We’ve used a mug as our makeshift hole, but feel free to use whatever you have lying about the house!

Set your balls down in a straight line from the hole, at one-foot intervals from each other. Starting with the closest, hole each putt without missing. If you miss, go back to the start and try again!

Too easy?

The simplest way to make this drill harder is to increase the distance between each of the balls in your line.

If you’re simply too good and are putting like Tiger, you could try finding a sloping putt or make the target (your makeshift hole) smaller.
