3 Steps to a Better Impact

Impact position is the most important position in the golf swing but is very difficult to work on due to the momentum of the swing at this point.  To work on improving your impact position requires you feeling how the correct impact position should be.  Today I’ll show you a great exercise to help you feel the correct impact position.

Step 1

From address, I want you to create your impact position without making a backswing.  Move your weight onto your front foot and feel your hips and torso open to the target.  Once in position, hold for a moment so that you can get a feel for this.

Step 2

Now swing slowly to the top of your backswing, making sure that you pivot centrally without too much movement to your back foot.  At the top of the backswing your weight should be evenly distributed. 

Step 3

 You should now swing through to a complete finish, striking the ball on the way and trying to ‘feel’ for the impact position that you created at the start of the drill.  Once the follow through is finished, hold his position for a couple of seconds to ensure completion.

This drill helps you to create a functional impact position where your body has opened to target creating much-needed space.  You will need a fair bit of practice, but you don’t have to hit a ball every time.  Practice swinging without a ball will also be a great help.
