Don’t resist it, Twist it… Do you ever feel like your golf swing is too restricted and that you’re struggling to make a full turn? In recent years, there has been much emphasis put on why you must resist with the lower body to generate power on your backswing. This has led to a generation of golfers struggling to make a complete turn, as they don’t have the range of movement to fully rotate with this resistance. Have you ever watched a long drive competitor swing a golf club? If you have, then you will understand that to hit the golf ball a long way requires a big turn and unless you are a contortionist, you are going to need a pretty big hip rotation to get your shoulders fully turned on the backswing. From address position, you should concentrate on the feeling of twisting your body, allowing your right hip and shoulder to turn behind your body. By doing so, you will make a more central rotation and will be able to make a more complete turn on your backswing. Your right leg will straighten a bit and your left heel may possibly lift and that is fine. It worked well enough for Arnold Palmer and many more of the greats. With a free-flowing rotation, you will soon be seeing your drives fly further down the fairway. Click here and get in touch if you would like to book a lesson.
