After 20 years of grass cutting and the past 13 with us, our trusty old John Deere 1145 grass mower finally gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago. What does that mean? Yep, time to go search for a new mower and I've found a great machine, that's already proving it's worth by the quality of cut and easy at which it's cutting the range.
Our new mower is a John Deere 1565, the biggest and most powerful of the front deck range. With only 1300 hours on the clock, we should hopefully get a lot of years out of this one.

A great day of junior lessons at North Inch
I've just completed a great day of junior coaching at North Inch Golf Course and it was fantastic to see over 20 kids turn out on the day. We started the day with a 1 hour session with the 5-8yrs group, where we did some pitching, working on controlling how far our ball flew, followed by some mid iron play. We then moved over to the putting green, where the kids loved the putting challenges that I set up.
Our next group was the 9-12 yrs, where we spent 2 hours working on their games. Again we started with some pitching work, then moved on to chipping at the green, followed by some putting work. We then moved to the golf course, where we played a 2 team Texas Scramble.
The first hole ended in a half after team 2 missed their chance of winning form 10ft. The second hole was also very close and it ended in a flip situation where team 1 just missed out on the win. In the end a halved match was a pretty fair result and a great day was had by all.
The final session on the day was our 13-17 yr old group, where we had just a single player sign up. This player however was Logan Skelton, who's a regular at both North Inch and Noah's Ark. For this session, I decided to dust down my own clubs and Logan and I headed out for 10 holes on the North Inch Course. Logan played some great shots and following a rusty start by myself, I actually played reasonably well.
So all in all it was great day and something that I'm planning on doing much more of through 2015.

Playing a ball from below your feet
This week we are going to look at playing the ball when it lies below your feet. This shot is more difficult than when the ball is above your feet as your set up has to change considerably.
At address you must tilt further over from your waist than normal and bend more in your knees to help you get down to the ball. This "crouched" address position will cause your backswing to be shortened as you'll not manage to make a full turn. You'll need to aim a little left of target, as this lie will make your ball curve from left to right in the air, due to something called 'face plane tilt'.
It is essential that you stay down through impact and try to follow through, even though your swing will be restricted. The natural tendency is to stand up out of this crouched position on the follow through, but you must not as this will lead to the ball being topped. This is one of the hardest shots to play in golf so whenever you get a chance drop a couple of balls and give it a go.
