A once in a lifetime experience
Well it’s finally come and gone, Ryder Cup Gleneagles 2014 is over. It seems very strange to say this as the build up has been for so many years and it’s now all done. The event was a massive success and will hopefully be a spring board to help us grow the game within the big county.
I was very lucky to be able to attend the Ryder Cup on both Friday / Saturday and I have to say that the atmosphere was electric and something I never thought I would experience at a golf event. It was golf, but just not as we know it!
A convincing European win made for an even better event, but let’s hope that the Americans get everything sorted out on their end as we need a strong USA team and if they keep getting beaten then their interest levels may wane and this will not be good for Ryder Cup.
It’s now time for every golf club in Perthshire to take action and work toward growing their membership base and drive more green fee players to the course.

The uphill chip
Club selection is very important when playing an uphill chip. You must always remember that an uphill lie increases the loft so choosing a club with a little less angle will prevent the ball from popping too much up in the air. At address position, to maintain balance you must lean your body against the slope and try to get as much weight as possible on your left foot with the ball positioned middle, to middle left in your stance.
On your backswing you should simply rock your shoulders making sure that you remain leaning against the slope so that you don’t lose balance. The most unusual part of playing an uphill chip is the follow through.
Due to the fact that you are both standing and swinging against the slope, your through swing will be restricted as you strike against the hill, preventing the movement from being completed. You must try to make a normal follow through and not hack the club against the hill even though you know the swing will be stopped.
Good luck!
