Welcome to another edition of our newsletter. This week, we take a look at the best bags to help make your round more comfortable, explain why golf-specific garments are so important to playing your best golf, and we cast our eye over "The Match" between two of the biggest names in golf. Enjoy the read. |
We are well and truly into the winter golf season, but are you fully winter golf ready? As the temperatures drop, we need to make sure that we can keep nice and warm on the golf course. A woolly hat and pair of mitts can really help keep the cold out and we have a great selection from brands such as, Titleist, Under Armour, Sabbo and PING with prices starting at £20. If you struggle to keep your hands warm even with a pair of gloves, then you should think about using hand warmers. At only £1.50 for a pack of 2, these can make all the difference to your game. |
Fairway Mat Depending upon where you play your golf, you may have to use a fairway mat to play from. We carry two options from Masters Golf. Firstly, is the more traditional winter mat which is really popular and does everything that you would expect of a winter golf mat. The other option is the Launcher mat. In our opinion, this is by far the best mat on the market. It looks unusual, as it doesn’t have any of the artificial turf that you are used to. The mats design helps the ball sit proud and you won’t find the ball rolling away on slopey lies. Even if you slightly miss hit the ball with a launcher mat, you will be amazed at the way the ball still flies. These are available in both our Perth and Pitochry stores at £12.95. |
Spikes Finally, to make yourself fully winter golf ready, have you looked at your shoe spikes? It is at this time of year that many golfers discover their spikes are worn out. A slip and fall or a near miss, sends them briskly up to our shop to be re spiked. We carry a selection of spikes in store, some with cleated and some with metal spikes. If you play your golf on a hilly course, then a metal spike can be a big help in keeping you upright. |

Play Better Golf – with Niall McGill Don’t resist it, Twist it… Do you ever feel like your golf swing is too restricted and that you’re struggling to make a full turn? Have you ever watched a long drive competitor swing a golf club? If you have, then you will understand that to hit the golf ball a long way requires the opposite of hip resistance and unless you are a contortionist, you are going to need a pretty big hip rotation to get your shoulders fully turned on the backswing. From address position, you should concentrate on the feeling of twisting your body, allowing your right hip and shoulder to turn behind your body. By doing so, you will make a more central rotation and will be able to make a more complete turn on your backswing. Your right leg will straighten a bit and that is fine. It worked well enough for Arnold Palmer and many more of the greats. In recent years, there has been much emphasis put on why you must resist with the lower body to generate power on your backswing. This has led to a generation of golfers struggling to make a complete turn, as they don’t have the range of movement to fully rotate with this resistance. With a freer flowing rotation, you will soon be seeing your drives fly that wee bit further down the fairway. If you are interested in taking some coaching to help improve your game, then don’t hesitate, give us a call today on 01738 440678 or email info@noahsarkgolf.com |
Scotland’s Best…. Pitlochry Golf Club has been hailed among the top visitor experiences in the country. We were delighted to be listed among the category winners at the fifth annual Scottish Golf Tourism Awards held at the Fairmont St Andrews. The 2018 event was attended by 400 guests and the compere was top golf commentator Dougie Donnelly. Manager Mike Winton and course manager Stuart Griffiths were thrilled when Pitlochry was announced as Scotland’s “Best Course Under £50.” |
|
“While we are delighted that our membership is on the increase and we have built-up a solid junior section, visitor income is vital to the golf club,” said Mike. “To be recognised by visitors voting in the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards is appreciated and shows we are doing something right. We have great facilities here, but Pitlochry is all about the course. It is our biggest asset. We have always been considered a bit of a hidden gem. Hopefully awards like this will mean less of the hidden! The award recognises that Pitlochry is a very good golf course and one in excellent condition. It is continually improving. A few years ago, an American golf writer said we were the best golf course under 6000 yards in the world. We were thrilled to read that, and it is a claim we look to justify.” Pitlochry Golf Club dates back to 1909 and over the past two years since local company RW Bell Electrical got involved we have been going from strength to strength. In addition to the scenic 18-holes in the shadow of Ben Vrackie we enjoy a sister nine-hole course at nearby Blair Atholl. Our modern practice facilities include indoor and outdoor driving bays and a six-hole course which is perfect for juniors and working on your short game. A warm welcome is guaranteed at the clubhouse year-round and our professional Wallace Booth is a former Eisenhower Trophy winner and a member of Niall McGill’s Noah’s Ark Golf Centre team. The Scottish Tourism Award reflects the work put in by course manager Stuart Griffiths and his team. Stuart’s impressive CV includes five years at an Open venue, Carnoustie, along with Blair Atholl, Tain, Letham Grange and Hankley Common in Surrey. |

Big Phil takes the bragging rights The long-awaited match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson took place last week and, with a combined 19 Majors between them, sparks were expected to fly. Las Vegas was an apt setting for the winner-takes-all event, and there was drama right up to the very last, as Big Phil came away with the $9m prize on the fourth extra hole after Woods had forced a play-off when he chipped in on the 17th. Whilst the quality of golf wasn't quite up to what we expected, it was certainly a unique way of playing the game and could even be done again in the future - get in touch and let us know your thoughts! Elsewhere, the European Tour got underway at the Hong Kong Open, with Englishman Aaron Rai fending off a strong challenge from compatriot Matthew Fitzpatrick to win his first title on the tour. Fitzpatrick was within touching distance, but a bogey on the 17th allowed Rai to take the victory on -17, with Fitzpatrick one shot further back. The Belgian pair of Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry secured the World Cup of Golf event down under in Australia over the weekend. The Belgian bombers finished three shots ahead of the home favourites Marc Leishman and Cameron Smith, and sealed victory for the first time for their nation. |
In the past, golf clothing has had the reputation of being “for the golf course” with a call to the fashion police needed if you were to wear it anywhere else. Thankfully, times have changed, and we now have a vast selection of fashionable pieces in-store that you’ll be able to confidently wear both on and off the golf course.
|
We know some of you are still wearing your baggy golf jacket from years gone by, so here's our suggestion to replace it: Galvin Green's Lance jacket. |
If you're shopping on the high street, you'll want an array of options to choose from. Well, this jacket is available in seven colours so there's something to suit all golfers. |
Its stylish design means it can be worn both on and off the course, whilst INTERFACE-1 fabric is windproof, water repellent and highly breathable for maximum comfort. |
