Equipment Survey

As some of you may have noticed in my past newsletter, we are now running an equipment survey. This is an online questionnaire that takes no more than five minutes of your time, and it can dramatically improve the service that we offer you.

By filling out the options, such as the current clubs you have, whether you have had custom fitting experience, and what brands you would be looking to add to your golf game in the future, we can assess what you want, and look to bring the brands that you want to buy in to the pro shop as new stock for the 2015 season.

Niall's North Inch Adventure

I'm sure many of you may have read this week, that I've taken on a new challenge with PKC, looking after and developing / marketing the North Inch Golf Course. Like many of you, I've read in recent years about all the trials and tribulations at this historic golf course and having played and won several tournaments on the Inch in the past, I jumped at the chance to get involved. 

I'm a strong believer that municipal golf has a key role to play in the growth of the game, being an ideal place for new golfers of all ages to play the game. Municipal courses offer affordable golf and remove many of the barriers attached to joining many of the private golf clubs.

North Inch Golf Course is one of the worlds oldest, with records showing golf having been played on the inch since around 1450. The Royal Perth Golfing Society is the oldest club in the world with 'Royal' patronage, being formed in 1824, one year before the R&A.

In my first week at North Inch, I've managed to make my way into the Perthshire Advertiser, the Dundee Courier and have also been interviewed for STV news.

Swing Tip

Stop your early release - Is your ball striking inconsistent and the flight weak? 

If so, then there is a strong chance that you're an early releaser. What's that I'm sure you're asking? Well, an early releaser is a player whose wrists unhinge too early on the downswing causing the shaft to lean backward and add loft to the club by the time it reaches the ball. This back ward shaft lean can also cause the club to bottom out before the ball or catch it thin. In this article, I'll show you why you early release and how to fix it.

Once you reach the top of your backswing, your down swing should be initiated by your body weight transferring towards your target. If you make this movement then your wrist hinge will hold on the downswing due to the radial acceleration of your body. This correct movement of your body will delay the releasing of your wrists.

If, from the top of your back swing you don't transfer your weight forward and instead stay back on your trail leg, then you will have no option but to early release your wrists in an effort to get your club head onto the ball. Early releasing is essentially a compensation for a poor body movement on the downswing. Get working on your weight transfer and your early release will be a thing of the past.
