The Ryder Cup
Wow, What a Ryder Cup that was... Congratulations team Europe on an amazing win against one of the strongest ever American teams. There was much speculation about how team USA was going to be just too strong for the Europeans and that it could be a big winning margin for the Americans. I never bought into that idea for 2 reasons. Firstly, I know just how good our players are and that they would not be intimidated in the slightest by the superstars on the opposition team. Back in the olden days of Ryder Cup, our players used to go weak at the knees when playing against a big name American. Now of days our players absolutely savour the opportunity to take the scalp of a higher ranked player. My second reason and by far the main reason that I believed we would win is our amazing team spirit and camaraderie. Every single member of our team was 100% committed to his team mates and this was so obvious for all to see. From Poulter’s chest pumping to Sergio’s Ole, ole, ole, ole. And then there was Molliwood... what more can be said about this amazing partnership of Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood. They were by far the highlight of the 2018 Ryder Cup and what a pairing they became. Nine points from ten, breaking records and stronger bond you will never see between team mates. Their ‘morning after’ video, summed them and team Europe up perfectly. If you have not seen the video, you absolutely must look it up on team Europe facebook page. The video has Frankie and Tommy waking up in bed together, with the Ryder Cup resting between them. I’ll not spoil the rest, but it’s hilarious and sums up our team. Team USA was not so much a team, but rather 12 individuals playing under a banner. Until they can let their egos go and play for the team, there will be many more European victories. |
