Ryder Cup Wild Cards
What fantastic news that Stephen Gallacher has been given one of Paul McGinley's 3 wild cards. We had correctly predicted the 3 players and I think that Paul has made good choices. There are some who think Westwood has not performed this year, but I believe he still has what it takes to be a strong part of the European team and I can't wait for 4 weeks time when it all gets under way!
If you're looking for some official Ryder Cup clothing, then we've got that covered. You can buy polo shirts, sweaters, wind tops and caps at a much lower cost than you'll find at Gleneagles!
Fix your slice!
Do you hate your slice and would like to get rid of it once and for all?
If so, then come and have a lesson with Niall - The slice fixer!!
If you slice the ball we know for certain that your clubface is open to the path of your swing. It also almost guaranteed that your swing path is going strongly to the left of target. The result of this action tends to be a loss of distance and a really difficulty to hit your shots on target.
This week I started working with a new student Alan Hill. Alan has been struggling with a slice which has been getting worse of late and he wants to get it fixed.
We initially recorded some data on Flightscope, our ball and club tracking radar which you can see below.
You can see above that Alan's club path was quite strongly out to in at 13.8 degrees to the left, this produced a glancing blow on the ball which is highlighted by a ball speed of just 94.5mph from a club speed of 87.9. All of this added up to a carry distance of 123.7 yards and a big curve from left to right.
Once I showed Alan his swing on our V1 video system, we set to work on improving his swing. I set Alan up with my 'Draw the ball' drill which is designed to help players reduce their out to in swing path. Below you can see the results following about 30 minutes practice.
Alan's club path reduced by 10 degrees to a manageable 3.5 degrees left, as a result the impact became more solid and his ball speed increased to 109.6mph and his carry increased by 11 yards to 134.6 yards.
We still have a lot of work to do, but for the first session we have taken a massive leap. I'll keep you up to date with Alan's improvement.

The Flying Right Elbow
The flying right elbow is a common fault amongst amateur golfers but one that can be fixed quite easily. It occurs when the elbows separate on the backswing due to a poor shoulder turn causing too much independent movement of the arms. This splayed elbow position at the top of the backswing tends to cause the player too hit across the ball from outside to in and either slice or pull the ball.
When making your backswing ensure that you make a complete shoulder turn whilst gently squeezing your elbows together. This movement will create more connection between your arms and body, making it easier to attack the ball from an inside to out path, producing a more powerful ball flight. Try making practice swings at home whilst standing side on to a mirror, and with time you will find that you can make a backswing turn without splaying your elbows. Always remember that golf is a sport where "less is more" in other words the LESS moving parts you have, the MORE consistently you will hit the ball.
