Ladies - It's time to improve your golf!

Every Thursday morning we run ladies 'Golf and Coffee' morning. You'll get an hours coaching with Jonny Belford from 10.30 - 11.30 am, where you'll cover everything from driving to bunker shots, with each weekly session having a theme. Following the coaching, you can sit and enjoy a coffee and a catch up. It's also great value at just £8 per session, which includes 100 range balls, 1 hours coaching and a coffee after. Call us on 01738 440678 if you'd like more information or to book.

New YouTube videos coming shortly

I've been slacking on the YouTube video tips for quite a while now and have decided to step it up over the coming weeks. My existing videos have been pretty popular with over 500,000 views and over 1200 subscribers to my channel, but I keep getting asked to record more and am now going to get to it. I've been out and bought myself a portable power pack, which will allow me to record videos out and about on the golf course with the need for mains power, which will be a great help to me. For the meantime, please check out my YouTube channel by Clicking Here And have a watch of some of my videos.

Are you getting the most out of your driver?

Earlier this week I took a driver fitting session with Andrew Kettles. Andrew has been using a 10 degree PING Rapture V2 driver for the past few years and was looking to upgrade and try to find some extra yardage.

I recorded some data on Flightscope from Andrews current driver, which you can see below.

Andrew has a tendency to launch the ball very low with just 5 degree vertical launch angle. This is caused by his low dynamic loft (loft at impact) of just 6.5 degrees.

Using Flightscope's fantastic 'Optimiser' function, I knew that Andrew had an amazing potential of 50 extra yards carry and 35 yards total distance.

In reality, very few players are able to achieve their optimum performance, due to swing idiosyncrasies that make this unachievable, but even with a slight change in launch conditions can a big improvement be made.

As you can see above, increasing Andrews Vertical launch angle to 9.9 degrees could add 20 yards to his drives.

I set up a Calaway X2 Hot driver at 12.5 degrees loft with a draw bias setting. Below you can see the result.

With the Callaway X2 Hot, we managed to increase Andrews Carry by 30 yards and his total distance by around 14 yards. With a couple of small swing changes, Andrew could easily add another 10 yards of total distance to his drives, but he was more than happy with his initial 14 yards.

If you'd like to get fitted for a new driver or set of irons, then give us a call on 01738 440678 or click here.

A 1 hour fitting session costs £40, of which 50% is refunded if you spend over £100 on clubs and 100% is refunded if you spend over £300.

Hand Position

I know that I keep harping on about it, but good fundamentals are essential to hitting good golf shots. Today we will look at the correct positioning of the hands at the address position.

Contrary to popular belief your hand position relative to your body does not change with any FULL shots, what does change is your hand position relative to the ball but this is due to the ball position varying as opposed to your hands. Your hands should always be in line with the inside of your left leg, so when you are hitting a pitch shot with the ball back in the stance your hands will be ahead of the ball. When you hit a mid-iron with your ball slightly left of centre, your hands will also be slightly ahead of the ball, but not as much as with the wedge.

When you hit a driver and the ball is now opposite your left foot you will find that your hands are either above the ball or even slightly behind the ball.

You can see that in every picture my hands have remained in the same position relative to my body. Get in front of a mirror and give this some practice.
