Open Championship week
It's the best golfing week of the year!
I absolutely love the Open Championship and this ones going to be extra special with local lad and British Amateur Champion Bradley Neil taking part, along with a return for Tiger Woods. Royal Liverpool is a great golf course and has produced some worthy champions over the years including Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen, Roberto De Vincenzo and Tiger Woods.
There's great TV coverage with the BBC offering over 40 hours of coverage along with 48 hours on radio 5 live, so it looks like there could be a lot of time spent on the sofa!
My money is going on Rickie Fowler, he's a great player, is coming onto form and can play all the shots that an Open Champion requires. Justin Rose has also been on top form, but I just can't see him winning 3 weeks in a row. Let's see how it pans out!

Playing in the wind
As its Open Championship week and we can pretty much guarantee it'll be a little breezy, I thought that I would show you how to play in dry windy conditions. I personally love playing in the wind as it is a great challenge and allows you to try a few different shots than you would usually play. These shots don't always come off, but they allow you to use your imagination and visualise some new shots (something that all top players do very well).
The secret to playing in the wind is to hit the ball softly with quiet hands, this lowers your flight and spin rate on the ball. The wind will always accentuate any spin, so it's important that we impart as little as possible. Too much spin will cause the ball to either climb so high that it does not reach it's target or curve well off line.
Today's swing sequence shows me hitting a 7-iron for a wedge length shot. Although these still pictures don't show the tempo of the swing, I can tell you that I am hitting this shot with a very easy tempo. I am also swinging with much less force than I normally would, as I know this will reduce the affect the wind has on my golf balls flight. I'm also keeping my wrists quite firm and trying to control my swing with my chest and shoulders.
Watch how the top players deal with the wind this week, and then give it a try next time you play in the wind and you should be pleasantly surprised by the outcome!

Ping G30 Fitting Day Launch- Only 2 places left
With the new PING G30 range due to launch on 1st August, we've managed to secure one of the very first fitting days in the UK, on Tuesday 5th August, 3-7pm. You will be able to be fitted for the new G30 range which includes the G30 Driver, fairway & Hybrids along with the G30 SFT (draw) driver and the new G30 irons.
I was lucky enough to get to hit them earlier this week and I can guarantee that you'll love them when you hit them. There is some great new technology in the driver head design that will help increase your club head speed and as a result your distance off the tee. Little and Large Putting Open
It has been said for many years that putting is a 'game within a game'. So on Sunday 17th August will see our first ever 'Little and Large' putting Open. Played over 36 holes of our Adventure Golf Putting Course, we're looking to find the Champion Putters.
Teams to consist of 2 players
