The high floater Golf can be tough when the wind blows and I often talk about how to adjust when the wind is in our faces, but what about when the wind is on our backs? Today, I’ll show you how to stop your ball on the green when playing down wind, as this can be tough. Hitting a high floating shot is the best way to hold the green with your approach shot and today I’ll show you how! Firstly, select one or two clubs less than you would normally play for the required distance then position the ball more forwards in your stance with a little more weight on your back foot as this will help increase loft on the club. Now make your normal backswing ensuring that you make a complete shoulder turn. On the through swing, it is essential that you stay slightly behind the ball at impact with your chest so that you catch the ball with a very shallow angle, just as the clubhead starts its upswing. At the finish of the swing you will find that your hands finish quite high and your back may finish in a slight ‘reverse C’ curve position. This shot requires practice as you may catch the ground before the ball or thin your first few attempts, but stick with it because it can be a very handy shot!
