'Bounce' your way to better chip shots I was giving a chipping lesson yesterday to a pupil who has been struggling with his short game and he had fallen into a trap that I see so many players do when they have lost a bit of their touch around the greens.
I decided I would record a video so that I could talk you through some of the pitfalls and how to avoid them if your chipping goes off. Chipping requires a combination of confidence and good technique. I'll help you with the technique and with a bit of practice the confidence will come.

Short Game Distance Control - with Fraser Cramb
If you find it hard to control the distance you hit your pitch shots, this article may help you cut out a few of the loose shots around the green.
The most important thing with pitching and chipping is the strike. Everyone has hit one a few inches before the ball and ended up edging forward a few feet to hit the next one.
The best way to control the strike is by making the movement as simple as possible. There are lots of articles out there some saying to cock the wrists and some saying to keep them out of it all together, and in both cases, there are pros and cons.
An exercise I like to work on is to set the wrists in a semi-cocked position during the backswing, and try to keep the wrist angle the same through impact.
The best way to get the feeling for this is to feel like the wrists are fairly soft during the back swing and firm on the way through the ball, using the shoulders to rock through impact. Your hands should be ahead of the ball at impact.
When done correctly this will help you maintain a consistent loft as well as a better-quality strike.
Good Luck!

A big thank you to our Volunteers It's amazing what you can achieve when you get a group of like-minded individuals together, all with the common aim of improving North Inch Golf Course.
We have been aware for some time that the banking behind the 5th green has been a bit of a mess and it badly needed clearing up.
This was when we decided to call on our volunteers and we are so happy that we did as the banking has been transformed. We still have about 20 metres worth to clear, but already we are receiving positive feedback from both golfers and from the public who walk around the course.
We plan too clear lots more areas around the course, which will improve both the presentation and playability of North Inch.
