Flightscope Golf Swing Analysis
Analyse your game like the Pro’s
I’ve been coaching golf for almost 23 years now and I have to say that since investing in my Flightscope radar a little over 3 years ago, it has absolutely revolutionised my coaching. Although radar in itself is a very technical piece of equipment, it has actually made the art of coaching much less technical and has allowed me to concentrate much more on a players swing feelings rather than trying to get the club into certain positions. By working this way, it is much easier for a player to maintain fluidity to their movement and I find improvement is much quicker this way.
A golf swing needs to be effective and repeatable and does not need to be orthodox in order to hit good golf shots.
If you want to play better golf, then give me a call on 01738 440678 and get yourself booked in for a 1 hour Flightscope lesson.
A 1 hour lesson with Niall McGill, using Flightscope, V1 video and 23 years of experience costs just £50.
Ian Stuart – Fixing Swing Path
Ian came to see me earlier this week looking to improve the accuracy on his shots. Lately Ian has found that he has begun either pulling his shots left or slicing them to the right.
I got Ian to hit some shots and recorded the data on both Flightscope and V1 video. On analysing the data we could see that Ian was swing quite strongly from out to in, at almost 10 degrees to the left. To compensate for this Ian was having to manipulate his club face open. Sometimes he would not manage, which was when he pulled the ball to the left, sometimes he would over manipulate the face, resulting in the slice that finished well to the right, and sometimes he would manipulate the club face just the right amount an the ball would end up on target. Judging this with any sort of consistency however, is very, very difficult.
Ian’s old ball flight with a swing path at almost 10 degrees left (out to in), with a clubface that was very open to path creating the big slices.
Ian’s NEW soft draw ball flight, 17 yards extra carry and 5.8 degree inside outs wing path. Ian’s inside swing path, with clubface slightly closed to path creating the nice draw.
If you’d like to improve your ball flight and play some better golf, then book a 1 hour lesson with Niall using Flightscope and V1 technologies for just £50. Call us on 01738 440678 to book your lesson, or click here.

Clubface is King
In recent years through the use of radar tracking equipment, it has been proven that the clubface has around an 85% control over the initial direction the golf ball will travel when it leaves the clubface.
As such club face orientation throughout the swing has become much more important than previously believed and we must try to keep our clubface a neutral as possible throughout our swing if we want to keep the ball in play.
Today I’m going to talk about the first move from the ball, which should be a simple one piece rock of your shoulders, with your arms remaining the same distance from your body, which will put the club into a position where it is pretty much parallel to your target line and the toe of your club is pointing just short of skyward.
If you over rotate your wrists & forearms on the move away, then your club face will open point too much up toward the sky. Conversely if you try to keep your club face pointing at the ball for too long on the move away, you will risk hooding/closing the clubface, causing your club face to point down to the ground.
The consequence of either of these moves is that you are going to have to manipulate the clubface in order to get it back to impact in a functional position. Whenever there is manipulation of the club face in a golf swing it becomes very difficult to do with any consistency. When your timings on and there’s no pressure, then everything’s fine, but when your timing’s off and the pressures on, it’s time to shout Fore!
