So, Darren Clarke finally made his 3 wild card picks today and his decision seems to really be splitting opinion.
Darren's picks were as follows:
Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Thomas Pieters.
These 3 join the 9 automatic qualifiers:
Rory McIlroy, Danny Willett, Henrik Stenson, Chris Wood, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Andy Sullivan, Matt Fitzpatrick.
I have to admit, that I would have chosen Russell Knox over Thomas Pieters. There is the obviously biased Scottish element of my decision, but also the fact that Knox plays in America week after week and has a proven record of winning on US soil.
Knox has also won on the big stage with his World Golf Championship win and although I think Pieters is a fantastic player, he would not have been my pick.
The thing with this year's 3 wild cards, is that there was really only one wild card. Clarke was always going to pick Westwood, it wouldn't have mattered how badly he was playing, Westwood was always going to be on the team. I also think Kaymer was an absolute certainty, which left only one place.
Now don't get me wrong, Thomas Pieters is a great player and his win last week in Denmark most certainly helped his cause, as did shooting 62 in the first round whilst playing with Clarke.
Let's hope that Team Europe go on and beat the Americans once again. I have my doubts however this year and I also believe that for the good of the Ryder Cup, the USA need a win under their belt. They have not won the Ryder Cup since 2008 and when they are not winning, they can very quickly lose interest and that would not be good for the event.
So, come on Team Europe! (But my monies on the USA!)

Start Flushing your Fairway Woods
Fairway woods are not the easiest clubs to hit with any consistency from the short fairway grass. There is not much margin for error and many players just really struggle to get the ball in flight.
In this week's video I'll show you how to start hitting your fairway woods with some consistency and get the distance you deserve from the fairway.
