There has been so much talk over the past few years as to whether golf should be an Olympic sport and part of Rio 2016.
Well, Sunday's final round proved that beyond doubt that golf well and truly deserves its place at the Olympics. To see the joy, pride and sense of achievement on Gold medal winner Justin Rose's face confirms just how much it meant to him.
This was a new experience for these guys and one that they all seemed to relish. Being part of multi-disciplined sports team, representing your country must be something special. Although we do have the Ryder Cup in golf, what seems to be so great at the Olympics is that the players go out and spectate and support all different sports. They were part of Team GB, Team Sweden and Team USA. It's never happened in our lifetime that golf has been part of a multi-sport team and the players seemed to be loving it!
What a golf tournament and what a day of golf we had on Sunday! I was glued to the TV for the back 9 holes and what a last 9 holes of golf that was!
You could not have picked two better players to be battling things out going down the stretch. Stenson has been a machine this year and once again and was ripping that 3 wood down each fairway. Justin Rose, was playing sublime and you could see the desire in both player's eyes to get their hands on the Golf medal.
Congratulations must also go out to Matt Kuchar, who won the bronze medal following an amazing final round of -8 par 63. I don't think I have ever seen a top tour player so happy about finishing 3rd in a tournament, this was however the Olympics and a medal was a stake.
I also like how the players came out onto the podium dressed in their team tracksuits and trainers. This was not about individual endorsement deals; this was about being an athlete participating for their country.
I really hope Rory, Jordan, Dustin et al realise just what they have missed!

Create some width on your backswing
We all want to hit more consistent golf shots. Doing so makes the game more fun and allows you to put together better scores.
A nice wide, body led swing will help you gain this consistency and in today's video, I'll show you how to do just that.

Play Better Golf
When the ball is above your feet
This week we are going to look at playing the ball when it lies above your feet. This shot requires some adjustment to your set up and aim.
Firstly you are going to have to grip down the club slightly, anywhere from 1 inch to almost on the metal of the shaft depending upon how much the ball is above your feet. You should place the ball a little further back in your stance as the tendency when the ball is above your feet is to catch the ground a little early, and this change of ball position will help compensate.
The final piece of the set-up is to ensure that you aim to the right of your target as when the ball is above your feet the tilted angle on the clubface makes it point to the left. This can feel strange at first as your mind will tell you that you will leave your ball out to the right, but fear not the physics will take care of this!
When swinging, you must keep your movement as smooth as possible, making sure that you complete both back and through swings. If you try to apply too much force with this shot, then it will be very difficult to control the amount of curve on your ball.
Remember that your ball should turn right to left in the air, a straight ball flight is not to be expected. You just have to trust it!
