Henrik Stenson….. What can I say!
That has to be one of the best days golf I have ever had the good fortune to watch. From the first tee shot to the final putt, both Henrik and Phil put on a show that can only be described as incredible.
For Phil Mickelson to have started the day a shot back, shoot 65 and lose by 3 is just hard to comprehend. With a total score of 17 under par, Phil finished 11 shots ahead of 3rd place. In any other year, he would have won the championship out of the park. In fact, with his score he would have won 140 of the 145 Opens that have even been played.
Unfortunately for Phil Mickelson, Henrik Stenson was on absolute fire! Aiming to win his first ever Major Championship, many thought that this might affect his performance and the Phil's experience might shine through.
How very wrong could they be!
I'm a massive fan of Henrik Stenson and was absolutely willing him over every shot to keep it going and lift the Claret Jug. Henrik has turned his game around, having dropped outside the world's top 500 back in 2003.

Play Better Golf
Clear your hips like Henrik
What a magnificent Open Championship that was and what a worthy champion we have in Henrik Stenson. Phil Mickelson threw everything he had at Stenson, but it was just not enough. Stenson played what has to be the best final round in Major Championship history, shooting 63 to win by 3.
One of the reasons that Stenson hits the ball so long and straight is his powerful body movement through the ball. Today I'm going to show you a great practice drill that will help you hit more powerful and accurate golf shots.
Step 1 - Sit your ball on a low tee holding the club on your right hand only. With your left hand, you should take hold of your right trouser pocket or belt.
Step 2 - Now swing back to around shoulder high ensuring that you turn your shoulders in time with your arm swing.
Step 3 - To initiate your downswing you should now pull on your right hip with your left hand, this will initiate the correct sequencing and the rest of your body will naturally follow. By leading with the core of your body, this will help create leverage and momentum required to make a complete follow through.
When you attempt this exercise at first you will find it hard to strike the ball correctly (or at all!). Just remember that the objective of this drill is not to hit the ball far, but simply for your body to learn the correct movement.
