Greetings golfers,

It's a busy few weeks of sport, with Wimbledon now under way, the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart next week, followed by the Open Championship at Royal Troon the week after. There is then the Olympics to top off a fantastic summer of sport.

I have been knocked off my timings a little this year, with the Open Golf Championship having been moved a week earlier to allow for the Olympics. There is usually a week's break following the end of the tennis, but this year we are straight into it.

When there is so much sport getting played, and that can be viewed on the tv, it is a great opportunity to inspire people to get out and start playing golf. With golf being added back into the Olympic mix this year, it will be much more in the spotlight, albeit that many of the world's top played have decided to not participate due to the Zika virus.

Although this may detract slightly from the event, golf will still be publicised very heavily, this being the first year that it is being reintroduced. We are planning to create some family friendly events/ fun competitions around the Olympic theme and I'll include more details on this in the next couple of weeks.

With the schools coming off on holiday today, it's also time to get out on the course and on the range and play as much golf as possible.

 The US Open

US Open Competition

The draw for our recent US Open competition was drawn earlier this week. We had asked you to guess the winner of the 2016 US Open and surprisingly from the 60 - 70 entries we received, only 3 people picked Dustin Johnston. Dustin has been so close, so many times and even with the terrible ruling made by the USGA, he still managed to win with a comfortable 3 shot margin.

Junior Summer Camp

As the summer holiday's begin, you may be looking for activities to keep the kids busy during their 6 week break.

Our summer golf camps could be the perfect option.

Golf is almost unique in the way that it can be played by the whole family together, regardless of age or ability, making it the perfect all round sport. Getting your children/grand children into golf will be one of the best things you ever do.

We are running 3 weeks of camps where you'll learn all about golf in a fun and friendly environment. We'll show you how to chip and putt, drive the ball and everything in between.

Dates and times of camps are as follows.

- Week 1: Tuesday 12th to Thursday 14th July
- Week 2: Tuesday 19th to Thursday 21st July
- Week 3: Tuesday 2nd to Thursday 4th August

Each camp is 3 days and will run from 1.30pm - 3.30pm each day. The cost of a 3 day camp is £42 per person and if you would like to book a place then you can call us on 01738 440678 or email info@noahsarkgolf.com

Play Better Golf - Distance From Ball

Today we will look at the distance you should be standing from the ball and how you can gauge whether you are standing correctly.

Depending on the length of the club that you are holding, the amount that you tip from the waist at address will vary, with a greater tip for shorter clubs and less for longer ones. For example: if I am playing a 7 iron, I would be standing at approximately mid tilt.

Firstly try this without a club and when you have set your body tip, you should allow your arm to hang naturally from your shoulders. When this is done, your arms should hang pretty much vertically under your shoulders.

You should now take hold of a club and once again allow your arms to hang in their natural position. This is the distance that you should stand from the ball. If you were to measure this distance, the butt end of the club would sit around a closed fist distance from your left thigh.

The most common fault I see is a player who stands too far from the ball and has to stretch to reach it. Before the swing has even started this players arms and body are disconnected and it will be very difficult for him to consistently deliver the club head back to the golf ball.

If you try remember that its posture first followed by arm hang, then you won't go far wrong.

Match Vs Strathmore Golf Club

We played a very enjoyable match vs Strathmore Golf Club on Thursday evening of this week. This was an 8 per side four ball better ball match and was played in great spirit.

The match outcome was a win by 3 matches to 1 for North Inch, with home course advantage (along with some great play), giving us the edge.

Following the match, we went to the bowling club where food was served, which seemed to go down well and there was plenty of laughs and hilarity going on.

What I really liked, was that within our team we had payers from various North Inch clubs, with Royal Perth, Perth Artisan and Perth Merchants all being represented.

Volunteer Training

A big thanks go out to Chic and Peter from Friarton Grounds Maintenance team, who came to North Inch this week to help train up staff and volunteers on use of strimmer, blowers and hedge cutters.

This was invaluable training and will allow us to now take on more tasks that will help to enhance the presentation of the golf course.

Video of the week

Just to prove that the unmentionables can strike anyone… this happened to poor Jon Rahm, playing in his first ever event as a professional. As if that wasn't bad enough, Shot Tracker technology captured it all!
