Does your driver shaft length suit you?
The golf club manufacturers are obsessed with making driver shafts longer and longer in an effort to help you hit the ball further. But does this really work?
The answer to the question is maybe!
The reason I say that, is that depending upon your swing style, a longer shaft can actually lose you distance even if it has helped you to increase your club head speed. The reason for this is to do with centeredness of strike. For many players, the longer you make the shaft then the more difficult it is for them to strike the middle of the club head. As your strike pattern moves away from centre club face then the transfer of energy and resultant ball speed begins to considerably reduce.
As such many players can actually create a higher ball speed and more distance with a shorter shaft and slower club head speed.
If you would like more information, or would like to ask us any questions regarding the length of your driver shaft then please feel free to pop into the golf centre and speak with one of our team.
We have just ordered a number of demonstration driver shafts in shorter lengths and these will be available for you to try within the next 7 to 10 days.

Play Better Golf
Kneesy Does It
We are not all as supple and flexible as Rory McIlroy or Jordan Spieth, so why would we want to try and swing a golf club like them?
The world's top golfers are professional athletes. They are in the gym every day working on their strength and conditioning. The result of this is that they will be able to swing a golf club and move their bodies in ways that are simply not possible for the average golfer.
One of the most common things I will see, is when a player tries to overly restrict his lower body on the backswing in order to create more resistance. This is all fine and well if you have the range of movement that allows you to make a full shoulder turn whilst resisting, but very few amateurs have this ability and will result in a short, restricted and un-powerful swing.
When you make your backswing, allow your left knee to kick in towards the middle of your stance a bit. This will give your shoulders more freedom to turn and will result in a better and more powerful backswing position. This kick with the left knee worked well for the likes of Nicklaus and Palmer, so it's a very acceptable way to swing a golf club!
By making a more complete turn on your backswing this will give you more time and a better chance of getting into an effective position at impact, which in turn will produce more consistent golf shots.
Another Successful Volunteer Day Following the recent drainage works that have been completed on the 7th fairway, we held the first of several volunteer days last Wednesday to work om landscaping and de-stoning the area where the drainage has been installed.
There was a lot of hard work put in and already the ground is looking much improved. We will be planning a couple more days to finish off this work before we seed the area and get it ready to come back into play later in the season.
The flooding issue at the 7th hole has been a long standing issue and we hope that this works will resolve the issue fully.
FootGolf We are hoping to open our new 9 hole FootGolf course on
Saturday, 14 May at 2pm. We still have a bit of work to do before we can open, but this should all be done in time for opening.
FootGolf is going to be a great addition to North Inch and a great activity for all the family to play. It's also great for an office outing or for your child's birthday party, with catering available at nearby Bells Sports Centre.
