We have organised a Callaway fitting Day for Thursday, 25 February, where you can try all the brand new 2016 range of clubs. I'm a bit biased being a Callaway Brand Ambassador, but I have to say that this year's range is the best I've ever seen!

We are offering you the opportunity to book a 30 minute fitting slot with Callaway's custom fit technician who will help fit you up for the best specification for your game. You can book your slot by calling 01738 440678 or emailing us by clicking here.

Equipment MOT

Our team are on hand to help you get your equipment in tip top shape for the new season. We offer a range of services from re-gripping to club alterations and we are always on hand to offer you advice. Please pop in any time for a chat.

Grips - Check you grips to see if they are worn and needing replaced. If you are a regular golfer, your grips will likely need replaced every season. As a grip starts to ware, it loses its grip and this results in a greater pressure required to hold the club and created tension in the swing. - Re-Gripping from £4 per grip

Shoe Spikes - Make sure you have grip in your shoes. An unstable base will lead to lost power in your swing. - Re-Spiking from £9.99

Wedge Faces - Worn grooves will reduce the spin you can impart on the ball and as a result your control around the greens will reduce. Re-grooving your wedges can make a huge difference to both the performance and appearance of your wedge. - Re-Groove and Sandblast £10 per club

Iron Loft & Lie - Through regular play, an irons loft and lie can change. Have you noticed an inconsistency between the distances that each iron carries? A wrongly lofted iron can cause this. If you are prone to pulling left or blocking right, then there is a strong chance that your iron lofts are wrong. - Loft and Lie alterations £4 per club.

Golf on the range

In this week's practice plan, I want you to work on transitioning between different clubs through the bag. On the golf course, you never get the chance to hit balls with the same club one after another and today's drill will help make your practice more realistic. Firstly take a few minutes to warm up, by stretching and making some practice swings without a ball. This practice plan is based upon a basket of 50 balls.

- 5 balls - Using your wedge hit these balls towards a target to complete your warm up.

- Play 18 holes (Approx. 40 balls) Imagine playing 18 holes on any chosen course. Play all the shots greater than 30yards, that you would have to play based on the result of your previous shot i.e. if you slice a drive to the right, then play the recovery shot you would have to play from where the ball would have landed, followed by your wedge shot into the green. To make this drill most effective, you must give complete focus to every shot, go through your pre shot routine, and be very target orientated.

- 5 balls - Using your wedge hit these balls towards a target to warm down.

This is a great session for helping you practice playing 'Golf' and not just the art of hitting a ball.

Play Better Golf - Drive it longer

If you would like to add some yards to your drives then this week's article is for you. When hitting a driver, there are a couple of adjustments that you must make to your set up, so as to increase your chances of maximising your distance off the tee.

You should widen your stance a little providing a more stable base and place the ball forwards opposite your left foot. Make sure that when you move your ball forward that you do not move your chest forward also. This is something that I see many players doing and it will result in a downward strike on the ball and lost distance. It is important that you keep your chest behind the ball at address with your driver, making your left shoulder sit higher than your right. This position will promote an upward strike on the ball and maximum distance. The upward attack angle will launch the ball higher with reduced backspin making your ball carry further and run more on landing.

You should also make sure that you stand tall to the ball with your driver. If you slouch over the ball, then you will restrict your body turn and reduce power. Don't be shy the give it a whack with the driver, even if you are a bit offline you will be hitting a shorter iron to the green and on average you will score better. If you are going to swing softly with a driver in an effort to hit straight, then you might as well hit a 3 wood!

Staff news

The St Andrews Challenge

A win for Niall!!! I'm a happy man this week, following my win in last week's St Andrews Challenge. The 18th hole at the Old Course is 357 yards from the medal tees and our challenge was to play a drive and an approach shot (using FlightScope) and see how close we could each get to that 357 number.

I managed to hit my drive and approach shot a total of 355 yards and was the closest to the 357 number.

The 100 Yard Challenge

This week's challenge sees us testing our Distance Control once again. We each had five attempts to hit the ball 100 yards. Your competition is to add up how many yards each attempt was out by, who was the best and the total of their combined missed yardage for the 5 shots. This week's prize is a £20 Gift Voucher.

Entries close Sunday 31st 5pm. Click on the image to watch the video on our facebook page and write your guess in the comments below it.

We need your help!

We have 3 volunteer days planned next week where the focus will be on raking up the debris that was left by the high tide marks and you will be amazed at just how far the water reached on some holes. We will also be doing some basic repair works to some of the bunkers that have been washed out.

If you can spare some time to come and help us that would be very much appreciated. Click here for more information.
